REVIEWS

  • "Playful, joyful and HOT"

Playful, joyful and HOT. After The Siren is everything I love about footy (dynamic, emotional, full of very attractive people), plus some things that could only improve the game (inclusive, queer and proud, sweet and sexy).

  • "Impossible to put down"

A fun, queer rom-com with plenty of laughs, enemies-to-lovers tension, and Aussie football action on and off the field. A feel-good read that is impossible to put down.

  • "Had a ball..."

Had a ball (literal tears) reading this book, I’m an absolute sucker for Aussie sports rep and can’t wait to see who’s up next!!

  • "Pure queer joy"

Pure queer joy. Jake and Theo’s chemistry is off-the-charts hot.

  • "Sweet and humorous"

A rom-com so sweet and humorous, and with such a perfectly plotted enemies-to-lovers romance, that it almost made me care about football.

  • "A stunning debut!"

A stunning debut! I adored this gorgeous queer Aussie rom com by Darcy Green. You don’t need to be an Aussie Football League (AFL) fan to fall in love with the two main players (pun intended) of this book—Theo, reeling after a rocky start to his AFL career, and Jake, the charming footy fan favourite who’s not out publicly. The loveable and diverse cast of supporting characters was also fantastic—from Theo and Jake’s teammates and AFL Women’s players to female best friends. I laughed out loud on a number of occasions and had happy tears in my eyes by the end of the book. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys queer love stories, AFL fan or not. Thank you to the author for providing me with an advanced reader copy.

Romantic comedy meets Australian Rules Football

After the Siren
is about inconvenient attraction, second chances, the joys of Australian Rules Football, and falling for the last person you expect.

It’s also about having your assumptions challenged, working out how to tell your own story, queer friendship, the romantic perils of Mario Kart, and the inherent eroticism of t-shirts riding up…

Theo Bestavros wasn’t supposed to be a footballer. He worked hard, got his game-winning moment and—failed. He’s determined to make the most of a second chance at the Brunswick Falcons.

Jake Cunningham couldn’t have had a better start to his career. He’s the Falcons’ star small forward, a fan-favourite, and a constant headline. He loves his team, loves the game, and has no intention of being the first AFL player to come out.

Jake and Theo get off on the wrong foot, but stumble into friendship—and then something that looks a lot like dating. But Jake doesn’t want to come out, and Theo doesn’t want to jeopardise his second chance.
